Dear Fellows and Inductees,
It will be a real pleasure to welcome you at the ICD Annual Meeting in Oporto. We have prepared an exciting scientific and social program for you and your accompanying person.
Oporto is a delightful city with a lot of charm and tradition. You will have the possibility of enjoying some of our local cuisine and do several tastings of the famous Port wine as well as sample some extraordinary white and red wines produced in the Douro Valley. For those who will stay on for the Sunday after-meeting tour, we have planned a boat tour on the river travelling to a famous Port wine grape farm where they will enjoy a al fresco lunch after a small tour of the working farm.
The anchor hotel is a beautiful palace on the shores of the Douro River. Several of our meetings and get togethers will be held there.
However, you will have some other hotels to choose from.
On Thursday there will be a reception to welcome everybody to the event and have the first taste of the warmth of this beautiful city. The cocktail will be served in the garden with the magnificent view of the Douro River.
On Friday, the Fellows will be following the Scientific Program, which will include the important Humanitarian Forum and their accompanying persons will be sightseeing some hidden treasures of the city of Oporto.
In the evening, a dinner will be held in one of the most famous Port Winery Cellars. There will be plenty of opportunities to taste different types of Port Wines and try out some of the local gastronomy.
Saturday is the Big Day. The morning is free time and the Induction ceremony will take place in the Arab Room of the old Stock Exchange Palace in the center of Oporto. This palace is a very special place, not only it dates back to 1842, it is known for its beautiful nineteenth century neoclassical architecture and was once one of Portugal’s most important commerce trading centers.
I hope we can finally see each other and enjoy this year’s meeting together. I sincerely hope to see you all there.
